Mess With the Tesla Bulls, You Get the Horns

Every Saturday I answer questions from readers.

These Q&A emails are meant to slow things down and cut through the noise.

They focus on real investing questions, practical decision-making, and how to think about opportunities in markets that are rarely simple.

If you’ve emailed recently, there’s a good chance your question is addressed below.

Let’s get to it.

Good article and glad you got your first Tesla Robotaxi ride. I think you are wrong about TSLA though. They are hardly a car company at all. Actually, I think they are an AI company with the ability to power robots, giving AI the ability to move freely about and interact with the physical world. The value in that alone is, to my way of thinking, far greater than just a sleek looking car. – Gary

Gary, you’re absolutely right about one thing: betting against Elon Musk has historically been a bad move. Tesla has been proving skeptics wrong for years, myself included.

I remember calling the stock expensive back in 2014 when it was trading around $15 split-adjusted. Today it’s around $400.

But here’s the other side of that story. During the years I was missing Tesla’s run, I was making money in Nvidia, Zoom, Meta, GameStop, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and several others.

Could I be wrong about Tesla again going forward? Of course.

And I probably will (*facepalm*).

But in the meantime, if I keep allocating capital to companies with strong fundamentals and powerful tailwinds, I’m confident my portfolio will do just fine.

Thanks for the email and keep them coming. I always enjoy the Tesla banter.

I was recently in Atlanta where I hired an Uber and a Waymo showed up. I agree the ride was a little jerky, but very exhilarating. No safety driver, just me in the backseat of a vehicle that was driving itself. Just wanted to acknowledge that I enjoyed your article. Keep up the good work! – Deb

I appreciate you reading and taking the time to write in!

The first fully driverless ride tends to stick with people. Sitting in the back while the car handles everything itself is still a pretty surreal moment.

If you’re ever in Austin or San Francisco, I’d recommend downloading Tesla’s Robotaxi app and comparing the experience to Waymo. In my rides so far, Tesla’s system has felt noticeably less jerky.

Thanks for reading and for the kind note.

I just bought Nvidia (NVDA) and I'm getting killed. What to do? – Dennis

The stock is up since I received this email and since I first bought and alerted subscribers at $179. And over the past month, Nvidia is down just 2%, so I’m guessing “killed” is being used a bit loosely here.

More importantly, ask the real question investors should always ask during volatility: has anything happened recently that meaningfully damages Nvidia’s business?

The answer is no.

Demand for AI infrastructure continues to surge, hyperscalers are still spending aggressively, and Nvidia remains the clear leader in the most important computing transition of our lifetime.

So my view hasn’t changed. Sit back and hold the world’s greatest AI company at 17x forward earnings.

I enthusiastically followed your concept of The Million Mission. The results have been disappointing. I know this email will never be published to your followers but I write it for my own inquiry. – Randall
