Sell ASTS? Buy What??

Every Saturday, I answer questions from readers.

They’re real questions about real money.

If you’ve emailed recently, look for your question below.

Should I sell my AST SpaceMobile (ASTS)?? The Blue Origin rocket blew up during a ground test Thursday night causing ASTS stock to drop from $133 to $109 on Friday. – Mark

Mark, let’s “zig” while others “zag.”
First and foremost, this is a major setback for Blue Origin. This was a catastrophic failure not even during the most difficult test – launch.
The company has no backup vehicle, no backup launch pad, and likely huge amounts of ground equipment was destroyed Thursday night.
This will delay ASTS getting its satellites into space, along with Amazon’s Leo satellites too.
I’m not a seller of ASTS on this news, however. In fact, I’d use this opportunity to pick up shares of EchoStar (SATS).
Do you know who the big winner in this tragedy is? Blue Origin’s biggest competitor – SpaceX.
EchoStar owns a significant stake in SpaceX. Yet the stock fell 5% Friday.

What do you tell readers about purchasing pre-IPO shares of SpaceX through Destiny Tech 100 (DXYZ), Baron Partners (BPTRX), or others? – Charles

Great question, Charles. I’ve talked about the risks of these funds before.
The biggest risk is that these funds typically trade at a premium to the value of their underlying assets. This happens because the underlying assets are shares of heavily demanded private companies like SpaceX, OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.
But now ask yourself… What happens when SpaceX, OpenAI, Anthropic, etc. go public?
Do investors need to buy DXYZ, BPTRX, XOVR, etc.?
No. They’ll buy shares of these companies directly. The premium investors are currently paying for “proxy” funds will likely evaporate.
I hope this helps.

What are your thoughts on XRP? – Paul

XRP, like most crypto assets, doesn’t trade on fundamentals. It trades on momentum, narrative, and the hope of catching a wave that turns into real money.
If XRP starts running again, it probably won’t be because of a breakthrough use case – but because people see it moving and pile in.
That might sound cynical, but that’s just how these assets behave: wealth creation drives attention, and attention drives capital.
That’s why I recommend having a deliberate allocation to crypto – with Bitcoin and Ethereum as your core, and XRP in the second tier.

With all the excitement surrounding the SpaceX IPO and AI in high gear, it seems that crypto has fallen to the wayside. Should I be still holding Ethereum? – Byron

Contrary to popular belief… when people stop talking about crypto, that’s usually when you should get the most interested.
Markets move in cycles. Right now, AI, robotics, and SpaceX dominate the narrative, which naturally pulls attention away from crypto.
But Ethereum still sits at the center of stablecoins, tokenization, and decentralized finance.
The biggest mistake investors make is only wanting to buy assets when they’re exciting.
Personally, I’d rather accumulate quality crypto assets when nobody cares than chase them after they’ve already doubled.
