It's the Weekend, America!

Happy Saturday!

It's time for another reader Q&A.

Each week, I answer all of the most interesting questions that land in my inbox.

As always, I can't provide personalized financial advice, but I'm happy to share my thoughts, research, and how I'm thinking about the market.

Let's get started.

So if Rocket Lab (RKLB) bought Iridium (IRDM), what happens if I own Iridium? And how soon will they acquire it? I own both so it’s a win-win for me. – Deborah

Congrats, Deborah! This is absolutely a win-win for you.
The deal is a 50/50 cash-and-stock buyout valued at $54.00 per share. For every single share of Iridium (IRDM) you own, it will automatically convert into:
  • $27.00 in cash deposited straight into your brokerage account.
  • $27.00 worth of Rocket Lab (RKLB) stock (the exact number of shares will be calculated right before the deal closes).
Nothing happens to the RKLB shares you already own. But your total Rocket Lab position will get bigger once your Iridium stock converts over (likely in mid-2027).
You can also just sell your IRDM stock and use those proceeds to invest elsewhere, instead of waiting for mid 2027 when the deal is expected to close.
But before you make your decision… read the next Q&A.

I followed the advice of James Altucher and Zach Scheidt and bought the August $50 Iridium (IRDM) call options. So now that the stock is over $50, how do you decide when to sell a call before it expires? – Jay

James and Zach's recommendation is simple: don't sell yet.
Even though IRDM has moved above the $50 strike price, they believe there's still a compelling reason to remain patient.
Remember, Rocket Lab's offer values Iridium at roughly $54 per share, and the acquisition isn't expected to close until next year. That leaves plenty of time for new developments.
  • Another bidder could emerge.
  • Rocket Lab could increase its offer.
  • Or the market could continue to reprice Iridium's assets as investors recognize just how valuable they are.
That's why James and Zach are not recommending taking profits today.

Is now the time to sell Iridium (IRDM) or hold? – Wayne

If James and Zach believe this deal value could get pushed even higher… let’s side with them.

I’ll be sure to post updates here as well.

AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) went far below $79 brutha. I know. Believe me. I know. I’d just ask when you do a write up, get the numbers right. If people that follow you see the numbers aren’t close or correct, it’ll make them think you aren’t being reputable. Just sayin’. – James

You’re right, James. In my Monday article about space stocks, I did say that ASTS fell from $133 → $79, although the stock was actually down in the $65 range at one point.
But now look at it this way…
If I'm recommending that readers buy ASTS, isn't it more useful to provide the current price – where they can actually buy shares – rather than the lowest price from a week ago that no longer exists?
The price was $79 when I made the recommendation. That’s the price I advertised.
Thanks for being a loyal subscriber. Keep the emails coming.

How about Bitcoin? – Stephen

I still believe crypto should be a deliberate allocation in any long-term portfolio – with Bitcoin and Ethereum being core holdings.
And it’s not because I think these coins will revolutionize finance. My thought process is a lot simpler.
